Oi, Dress Hunting.

So, those of you that were visitors of my other domain probably know about my mothers upcoming wedding. Which is awesome. The only problem Mom's Dress now, is finding a dress for me to match hers. She’s giving me a bit of freedom to choose the dress I want to wear, except she’s making it extremely difficult. This is the dress that she picked out. She’s planning on getting it hemmed to knee length. (She doesn’t want a “formal” wedding. “I’ve already had two formal weddings, I want this one to be casual.” For those of you who don’t know, my mom has been divorced once and widowed. This is her third wedding. Obviously.) So, with her having a knee length dress, I need a knee length dress. I don’t think I look good in knee length dresses. I have pretty muscular calves. They tend to look pretty beastly in my opinion. As in, to the point where I don’t wear shorts or skirts of any kind. Yeah, I live in pants year round. I don’t even wear capris.

Anyway, so I went looking for a few dress styles online. And EVERY SINGLE ONE I’ve found isn’t good enough. Dress “I don’t like that bodice” or “That neckline is too low.” I keep getting responses like that from her. I tried telling her, “Mom, I’ve got big boobs, high necklines, they look weird on me.” Because they do. I was looking for a type of halter top kind of dress. I think I found a really pretty one. It’s not going to be black, but I like the style. She thinks the neckline is too low. That’s the dress that I’m talking about. Neckline too low? I don’t think so. This is just becoming overly stressful. Her and I keep getting into it about it. Not like full blown fighting, but definite arguments about them. She keeps wanting to put me into dresses that look, well to be bluntly honest, OLD. I don’t want to look like an old woman dammit. I want to look my god damn age and I want to look fucking good. I don’t get to dress up ever and I want to look good, not old. I never thought that our different tastes were going to go this far. It’s driving me absolutely crazy. If anyone knows of any good dress sites, let me know. Her and I have to pick a style out so that I can have a dress made.

[Edit] New layout, lemme know what you think. [/Edit]

Firstly (as I noticed this first)…I LOVE the new layout. It’s a great reminder that it’s spring and summer is coming up! Did you take the pictures yourself?

Congrats on your mom’s wedding. I can see why she wants to go a bit more casual with this one. And I can see how that puts you in quite the situation when it comes to choosing a dress. I have really muscular calves, but I found that wearing higher heels (despite the fact that I’m already really tall) makes them look less scary. I really like that black dress. I think it would look really pretty in a dark red. I don’t think that neckline is low, either. It only looks that way because it’s a V-cut. Maybe if you try on a dress like that and show her, she’ll change her mind about it.

I was so angry when I saw this layout. I love it so much…and it made me kick my own ass. LOL! I’m trying to learn as much about CSS as I possibly can…and then you go off and show me up. Damn you, Ashley! I demand you put a shitty layout up!

I love that dress. If your mom doesn’t like it, well, do like I do: Be stubborn until she gives in. LOL! And anyways, could you image the fabulous boobage on a dress like that? You know that’s going to be hot. Makes me want to put a dress on just for the cleavage factor. Bah! Anyways, she’ll come around to one of your dress choices eventually…don’t go around lookin’ like an old woman.

As you said, your mom gave you the freedom to choose your dress. However, it doesn’t sound like that’s what she’s doing. *lol* I know your mom is stressed but I do think she’s being a bit overly picky about your dress. I think the dress you picked out is quite loverly and would look very flattering on you. The neckline isn’t low at all. I don’t think she can get an accurate idea of the dress by looking at it online. I’m sure seeing it in person would change her mind.

Good luck, sweetie. :)

Awww I really hope that you and your mum can sort out some sort of compromise or something about the dress. I adore the dress you’ve picked out, but the one your mum chose is also quite pretty. I hope that you can find something pretty that works for both of you!

The new layout is clearly perfection! :)

The layout is amazing. Simplicity rules and the colors and picture work wonders.

The first dress is beautiful :) Too bad your mom doesn’t want a formal wedding, because it’s very elegant :) Have you looked at the Victoria’s Secret site? They have a lot of pretty knee length dresses :)

Congrats to your mom ^.^

I’ve never been a very big fan of skirts, even if it’s mini skrits with black stockings, i have muscular calves too :[

i'm sorry to hear that the dress hunting isn't going smoothly :[ i'm sure you'll pick a great dress in the end tho.

Congrats to your mommie tho :]

Yeah, you definitely don’t want to look like an old fart. Go to David’s bridal. I got my prom dress from there a few years ago. They’re cheap and nice looking. I like the knee length look, but it’s not for everyone.

Some cute ones I’d wear:

I absolutely hate dresses, but the one pictured above looks rather nice. It sucks that you’re arguing about the neckline but it’s nothing a little fabric can’t fix. And yea, you don’t want to look like an old lady so you’ve got to show a little skin. I hope you’re able to enjoy your mothers wedding, I’m sure it’ll be beautiful.

I like the dress you picked out but I would never wear it (only because I despise wearing dresses) I hope you and your mom can come to some type of agreement.

oh, you’re mom’s dress looks so beautiful.
finding a dress is no fun at all. i never went to prom or anything so i didn’t have to deal with that. and when my mom got married all the bridesmaids wore the same dresses that she picked out. they were ugly. but i was 11, so i didn’t care tooo much.
goodluck on finding a dress. and i think a dress a little longer than knee length should make your calves look fine, no matter how much you hate them.
while it doesn’t distract from them as much as a full length dress does. i think the midlenth dresses or skirts (or capris) make calves look nicer because you don’t really see them in porportion to your entire leg, you know?

anyway, good luck.
and i like the layout. it’s very simple. :D
