So, I hear you like movies too.

I’m a sucker for a good horror movie; sad thing is… there aren’t many good ones. People raved over Scream and how fabulous it was. News flash: Scream sucked. Along with 99.9% of the other horror movies ever made. Horror movies aren’t supposed to be about blood and gore, it’s supposed to be the raw elements that terrify you. Answer me this, when are you more frightened: When you know what’s coming and what to expect? Or the unexpected, the unknown, not knowing what’s happening?

Exactly, the unknown is more frightening that what we see and expect. When your imagination runs wild is when the good stuff really gets going. Horror movies overall tend to lack in that aspect. They fill you in all too quickly on the “scary” aspect of the movie. Scream for example, the whole time you knew it was some guy in a mask coming after you. Now lets look at another movie, The Descent. Firstly, I loved this movie. It was so well done. Set in a cave, in the dark, lost, raw elements with no help coming. Digging into things that people fear most.

And the best part about the movie… you never really get a good look at the monsters. Not to mention you never actually see them until about halfway through the movie. You kinda hear them and you know they’re around, but they don’t come out for awhile. I don’t want to ruin the movie for you, but simply put, it was so well put together and filmed well. It’s really a must see if you love horror movies.

But back to my point, horror movies are generally terribly done. I don’t want big movie stars whose faces I know. I don’t want to know what’s coming after me. I want a plausible plot line. I want to be frightened. I want to let my imagination to do the frightening for me. I want a good horror movie dammit!

Edit: I got my grades for the semester! I did well! Go me! All A’s and B’s. I feel awesome. Seriously. I suppose applying myself in school is a good thing.

I agree, it’s much scarier to not know what is coming. I think something more realistic is much scarier than a monster that would never visit your house. Have you seen any of the Saw movies? I liked them… there WAS a lot of blood and gore, but it kind of fit the movie I guess. The scary factor was knowing that there ARE people out there that are derranged and things like that DO happen somewhere…

I personally dislike the horror genre. It’s sometimes way to stupid it’s like why did they waste all that money making that movie or sometimes it’s really realistic that it’s terrifying. But they just need to be consistent .

I do agree. I also think it’s hard to come up with anything original these days. Mass killers? Haunted houses? It’s all been done.

You know I love horror as well. Everyone talks about how great the Saw movies are and I can’t stand the first one, haven’t even tried to watch the others. I think I’m more into B Horror than anything.
